Any Catholics who visited the Vatican what did you think of it?
Was anyone disappointed it was not a religious place to visit. I cant help but to think that it was a big tourist trap. People taking pictures in the confessionals... rosaries and medals that were way overpriced. In the churches people were loud, running around and being disrespectful. Nobody was being respectful in the church. Am I alone that this was bothersome or does anyone else feel the same way? Maybe i am being oversensitive.
I've never been, but that would bug me.
If the Sanctuary Light is lit, the Church should be quiet, meditative, conducive to prayer and present an atmosphere of the sacred. We're Catholic for crying out loud. If non-Catholics want to come into the Basillica they ought to be dressed properly, and understand what they're seeing.
I can understand why people would want to take pictures, but they should do so as respectfully as possible. I bet the rosaries and medals are way overpriced, which is a shame. Nobody seems to care about the sacred anymore, including Catholics.
All you can do is make your pilgrimages, leave your votives, say your prayers and make what you can of the trip.
