Building the Church of Jesus Christ
FOR THE PAST five years, Every Community for Christ (ECC) shepherd (team leader), David Jun, has ministered to foreign migrant workers moving into Korea. God has blessed this ministry, which works with some 500,000 to 700,000 foreign workers from all over Asia, South America and Africa. Pastor Jun shared this testimony, "One Filipino man came to our fellowship three years ago. After the service, he approached me, and we spoke privately about his life. He had come to Korea with his wife to work but had become involved in worldly things— going to bars, drinking with friends and spending all hismoney. He wanted to know how to change his life. I immediately told him that he needed Jesus.
‘Jesus can help you and change your life,' I said. I shared the Gospel, and then, right there, he bowed to accept Jesus as his personal Savior. I invited him to attend a Bible study. ‘Why not
come this Wednesday?' I asked. He came, and we have studied together for the past six months. His life has been completely changed. His wife saw the change in his life, and she, too, became a Christian.He is now telling other people about howGod has changed his life, and he is inviting many new people tothis congregation."
Pastor Jun also regularly ministers to fellowship groups that include Thais, Russians, South Asians and an Englishspeaking Filipino group of 80-100 people each Sunday. He has found that when these immigrants return to their countries, they are eager to do evangelism
and church planting among their own people and families. Historically, this has been the goal with each and every ECC team. In the years following 1907 when OMS started ministry in South Korea, OMS' ECC evangelism and church planting teams also began ministry in that nation. This marked the first period of ECCministry. During ECC's second phase of ministry from1946 to 1969, the partnership with the Korea Evangelical Holiness Church (KEHC) greatly expanded. A new phase of KEHC and ECC partnership began as ministry teams were formed in Thailand. This was the result of Rev. John Hong leading a Thai woman to Christ inNew Zealand. Years later, she and her husband planted a church in Bangkok. Then,more Korean missionaries were sent to Thailand, and ECC teams were organized in partnership with the KEHC, Mung Thai Church.
Thismodel of partnership continued as Korean missionaries were sent to other countries and requested ECC partnership in establishing local teams. At one time, there were ECC teams in partnership with KEHCmissionaries in Thailand, Russia, the Philippines, Southern Asia, Southeast Asia, Brazil, Paraguay and Cameroon.
Today, partnerships continue in the Philippines, Southern Asia, Southeast Asia and Cameroon. Discussions are under way to increase the number of countrieswhereKEHCand ECCwill partner.
The partnership between ECC and the KEHC has grown greatly in the last 100 years. Today, many Korean pastors serve as ECC shepherds or evangelism and church planting team leaders. God has blessed the KEHC/OMS/ECC partnership, and many people from
countries all around the world have heard the Good News of Jesus Christ as a result. To God be the glory!

About the Author
David and Marilyn Graffenberger have been missionaries with One Mission Society since 1963, serving first in Haiti. In 1979, they joined the homeland staff at OMS World Headquarters in Greenwood, Indiana. David coordinated overseas operations as director and vice president of Field Ministries (now International Ministries). Marilyn served in the Field Ministries office and then as assistant treasurer until they began their present assignment in 1988.
Until 2005, David, assisted by Marilyn, was the international director of the Every Community for Christ (ECC) ministry, the major evangelism and church-planting initiative of OMS. ECC assigns small teams of two to six men or women to a specific area or group of people in their own country. The goal of each team is to lead people to Christ, establish them in their Christian faith, organize them into local congregations and train them to multiply more churches.
More than 450 ECC teams currently minister in 43 countries. Dedicated missionary men and women serve these teams as shepherds, giving oversight, encouragement and accountability to the team coordinators and team leaders through periodic visits, correspondence and prayer. David currently serves as shepherd for India and Haiti, and the Graffenbergers are spending extended periods of time in Haiti, beginning in September 2009.
In April 2005, David and Marilyn turned over their leadership responsibilities of ECC to capable men and women. David continues to assist Dean Davis, the new international director, as his special assistant.
From 1993 to 1998, David and Marilyn also gave leadership to the OMS CoMission teams of missionaries in Russia, Estonia and Eastern Europe. David was field leader in Russia from 1998 to 2000. Marilyn was the OMS Russia field treasurer from 1993 to 2001.
David serves on the board of the Moscow Evangelical Christian Seminary (Russia) and the Into Africa Planning Committee of OMS South Africa. He is also the chairman of the board of Mercy Incorporated, a humanitarian foundation related to OMS International.
The Graffenbergers make their home near Albany, Oregon. They have one son, Brian, who lives in Oregon with his wife, Susie. Brian and Susie have two young adult children, Levi and Kirsti, attending college.
One Mission Society is an evangelical, interdenominational faith mission that makes disciples of Jesus Christ through intentional evangelism, planting churches and training national leaders in Africa, Asia, the Caribbean, Europe and Latin America. OMS then joins with those churches in global partnerships to reach the rest of the world.
If Jesus was resurrected, was that really a sacrifice?
If he was the son, then what sacrifice was made to die for three days and then come back ?
How can it be a true sacrifice if Jesus's "death" was only temporary?
If Jesus had died and was to never be seen again, then THAT would be a great sacrifice for those who loved him !
Do Christians believe Jesus suffered more in 18 hours than the political prisoners did in the Russian Gulags ?

Yes, indeed it was a sacrifice.
Even if you are not scared of death itself, knowing that you were about to be beaten nearly to death and nailed to a cross to bleed out, would still be an incredible sacrifice to do it willingly. He still felt the incredible pain and suffering that accompanied his death. He accepted that with grace and died for us, so that we may be washed clean of our sins.
He was resurrected to reinforce to his followers that indeed, he really was the Son, and not just some quack .
