When Was the Vatican Built?
Do you know what ‘Vatican' is? It is a beautiful and great place in Rome that everyone is longing to be there. Although it is a small city, people love to go there for its historical value and ancient buildings. Now, let us the look into the history of Vatican to understand how and when it was built. The history started when Saint Peter past away in Rome. A church was erected exactly at the place where Peter was buried in AD 326. The small church then expanded its territory when Roman Empire demolished. The big land was used to build another few churches under the Papal States. Soon, Papal States managed to control over France and Italy with their power.
However, the victory of Papal States did not sustain for long. It changed when the Italian unified. After some time, the states were taken over by the kingdom and left with only one small city in Rome for the Popes. The Popes refused to obey the Italian rules but they were not treated badly. The government just simply didn't know how to deal with them and what to do with them. They were left behind without any attention by the government.
In 1929, the history of the Vatican changed became better. This moment was known as Lateran Treaties where they got their own leadership title and Roman Catholicism was recognized as the state religion. The treaty was signed and witnessed by Benito Mussolini and Pietro Gasparri, the Cardinal Secretary of State representing Pope Pius XI. This indicates the declaration of Vatican territory and the independence of Vatican City and Roman Catholicism. The declaration of Vatican as the State of Vatican City is the moment when Vatican was built. It is a beautiful and scenic place located exactly in the city of Rome.
Pope John XXIII was elected to lead the Vatican council II which was held in 1965. This event showed the upgrading and transformation period of the church. Since 1870, the Vatican is named as the official home for all the Popes. It is also known as the Papal palace. The palace was mainly used for religious activities with unique and famous structures. It also had valueless arts, sculptures and literatures in it. The palace was located beside Basilica of St. Peter. Most of the administrative works were carried in the palace as well.

From Rome, you can take the train from the Roma Termini station to Naples Centrale station. From the area around the Vatican, you can get to Roma Termini using the metro, a bus, taxi or walking. In Naples, you need to change to the Circumvesuviana trains, just follow the signs in the station. Naples Garibaldi is another section of the Central Station where the train from Rome arrives. You want a train going in the direction of Sorrento. The Pompeii stop is called Pompei - Scavi Villa Misteri. It's a 36 minute ride that costs 2.40 euro.
