Will There be a Rapture?

One topic of debate among Christians is the concept of the rapture of Christian believers in the end times.  Will Jesus return in the end, and will he gather the elect to save them from a time of great tribulation that will come upon the earth? Will there be a 1,000 year reign of Christ upon earth after the rapture, and before the final judgment day, so called premellennialism?  Or, is the 1,000 years which is referred to in Scripture, symbolic or literal, that represents a period of Christian growth throughout the world, and then the rapture and judgment will occur simultaneously, or at least nearly so, as those who ascribe to postmellennialism or amellennialism propose.  Of course, non-Christians deny there will be such an event at any time.

There is a great deal of symbolism in Biblical prophecies, especially in relation to the end times. What should be taken literally, and what should be considered symbolic is often difficult to determine.  However, it is possible to demonstrate Biblical inerrancy and confirm the truth of what is written in the Bible, including the truth related to the rapture that will take place in the end.  This can be accomplished through gematria, the use of the numerical value of words to uncover hidden truth in Scripture.  In both Hebrew, the language of the OT, and Greek, the language of the NT, numbers are represented by characters of the alphabet.  (See tables of gematria values for Hebrew and Greek letters at the end of this article)  Therefore, every word has a numerical value as well as a specific meaning.  It is proposed that words and phrases of equivalent numerical values have an association.  Authorities in gematria insist that only the exact words from the "original" translations of Scripture must be used for gematria values to be valid.

As I am illiterate in the languages of the Bible, I began to use only the root word spelling (usually Hebrew, but sometimes Greek) for each word in a sentence directly from, or at least consistent with Scripture. I discovered amazing associations related to the numerical value of complete sentences composed in this manner.  Correlations first became apparent when I attempted to arrive at specific numerical values associated with Jesus: the gematria values for Jesus, Christ, Jesus Christ, and Lord Jesus Christ in Greek, which are; 888, 1480, 2368, and 3168, respectively.  I found that sentences using root words which restate what is written in Scripture concerning Jesus computed to these values repeatedly.  In the process I also found that numerical values to which I arrived randomly, quite frequently had the same value as individual words that have a direct association with the sentence of the same value.  This random number association will be demonstrated in relation to the topic of this article.  Each gematria example shown will indicate the root word used according to Strong's Concordance, the sentence will be shown in the "shorthand translation" of root words in Hebrew, (Hebrew is written from right to left) and the numerical value for each word will be given.  Every word used in a sentence will be the root word, but the words (most commonly Greek words) which are associated with the sentence are often alternative spellings of a word.

Most Christians believe that in the end there will be a rapture of those who have acknowledged Jesus Christ as Savior.  Not all Christians believe, however, that they will be taken up from the earth in a time of great tribulation. Is the rapture symbolic or is it a prophecy of a real event to come?   I believe that the Bible is quite clear that a literal interpretation is correct, and gematria seems to confirm this: For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so we shall ever be with the Lord. 1Thessalonians 4: 16-17. The Greek word for "caught up" is harpazo = ἁρπα̍ζω, with a gematria value of 989.  Gematria confirms that the children of God will be caught up when the Lord comes to gather them in the end.

The New Testament verse says that the elect will be "caught up" and the Greek word essentially means "to seize."  Note the words having the value of 1230. The elect will be caught up to be joined with the Lord who will receive them as His children.

If the word for "day" is added, then the sentence becomes: In the last day the children of God shall be gathered to meet the Lord; and the gematria value is then 1286. This is the value of an alternate spelling of a word with the value of 1230.

It is thus confirmed that in the last day the Lord will come to gather the children of God, and they will be raptured from the earth.  The Lord will come in the end to gather his children in the Day of the Lord.

In Genesis it is written that God created man from dust of the ground: And the Lord God formed man of the dust from the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul. Genesis 2: 7.  In other gematria findings I have confirmed that this verse in Genesis means that God imparted an everlasting spirit into man's body of flesh, making man into the image of God.  In the end, man's body of flesh will return to dust, but his spirit will return to God who gave it: Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it. Ecclesiastes 12: 7.

The next verse in Ecclesiastes says: Vanity of vanities, saith the preacher; all is vanity. Ecclesiastes 12: 8.  Gematria confirms that everything of the flesh is vanity.

The Lord will come to gather the eternal souls of the children of God who will then be with Him forever.

If the Hebrew word for "day" with a value of 56 is deleted from the last gematria example, so that the sentence above is: In the end the Lord shall come to gather the children of God to meet the Lord in the air; the gematria value is 1655. Observe the words of this value:

LOVE ONE'S CHILDREN (G5388) = φιλοτεκνους = 1655

Christ will descend from heaven to gather the children of God whom He loves. The passage of Scripture taken from 1Thessalonians states that Jesus will descend from heaven with a shout.  Note each of the words associated with the numerical values of the next two gematria examples which confirm Biblical truth.

For (H3588) the Lord (H3068) himself (H1931) shall descend (H3381) from (H4480) heaven (H8064) to gather (H622) the elect (H972) to meet (H7125) the Lord. (H3068)

The verse in Thessalonians says: For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel." Gabriel is the archangel of Scripture who is always sent to be a herald of good tidings.  When the name of Gabriel is used with this portion of the verse, it is proven that the Lord will return to gather the elect.

The Lord (H3068) himself (H1931) shall descend (H3381) from (H4480) heaven (H8064) with (H5973) a shout, (H7321) with (H5973) the voice (H6963) of Gabriel. (H1403)

A simple restatement of the prophecy confirms that the Messiah, the Lord of the Sabbath, will return to reign at the shout of the archangel.

Daniel wrote that in the end everyone found written in the book would be delivered, and that many of those who "sleep in the dust" would awake; some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt.  John wrote in Revelation the same prophecy: And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things written in the books, according to their works. Revelation 20: 12.  And whosoever was not found written in the book of life, was cast into the lake of fire. Revelation 20: 15.  Speaking of the New Jerusalem John wrote: And there shall no wise enter into it anything that defileth, neither whatsoever worketh abomination, or maketh a lie: but they which are written in the Lamb's book of life. Revelation 21: 27.  Gematria reveals who will be delivered from judgment, and will be able to enter the New Jerusalem.

Jesus said that after the tribulation he would come to gather the elect: But in those days, after that tribulation, the sun shall be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars of heaven shall fall, and the powers that are in heaven shall be shaken.  And then they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds with great power and glory.  And then shall he send his angels, and shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from the uttermost part of earth, to the uttermost part of heaven. Mark 13: 24-27. This passage of Scripture clearly states that Christ will return to gather the elect after a period of tribulation: For in those days shall be affliction, such as was not from the beginning of creation which God created unto this time, neither shall be.  And except that the Lord had shortened those days, no flesh should be saved: but for the elect's sake, whom he hath chosen, he hath shortened the days. Mark 13: 19, 20.  I believe that there will be a time of tribulation which occurs prior to the seven plagues of God's wrath against the ungodly, spoken of by John in Revelation, from which the elect will be delivered.

Although Jesus warned that there would be tribulation, he also told the disciples not to be troubled because he would return: Let not your heart be troubled: Ye believe in God, believe also in me.  In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you.  I go to prepare a place for you.  And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, ye may be also. John 14: 1-3.  Gematria confirms the promise that Jesus gave when either of two root words for "place" is used.
