I have a question about a unusual crucifix?
My dad was visiting my uncle this week. He helped my uncle clean out the basement and they found a brass crucifix that has a skull and cross bones on the bottom of the cross. The cross also has Jesus on it. Has any one heard of a crucifix like this? Can some one tell me if it is related to a religion. Thank you.
I've seen this sort of thing before. It's simply a reference to the fact that Jesus was executed at a site called 'Golgotha', which means 'the place of the skull' in Hebrew [John 19:17].
Sometimes the place of his execution is called Calvary, but this is just an anglicised version of the Latin 'Calvaria', which is a translation of Golgotha.
